Programs The Sonoma Center for Change focuses on guiding individuals to take responsibility and accountability for their actions and choices. SCC is committed to maintaining a supportive and nurturing program, which builds on personal strengths and the transformation of weaknesses. In addition, residents are given the tools necessary to develop a new self-image, initiate and enjoy positive life changes, and stay sober. Residents are also mentored in the life practices of forgiveness and acceptance for healing past trauma caused by others or oneself. A core SCC philosophy is that everyone has the capacity to live a life of joy, sobriety and freedom. SCC Program The SCC program is built on a foundation that holds that addictive behaviors create stress, anxiety and drama in a person’s life. The awareness and alteration of distorted CORE Beliefs that perpetuate stress, worry and drama is fundamental to the healing of the addictive mind. At SCC, we give residents practical tools to change their beliefs and, in turn, their relationship to themselves, their family, community and the world. The Recovery Process includes:
Educational curriculum at the Sonoma Center for Change is based in the CORE Belief System and the “Four Agreements”, and the foundations of drug and alcohol education, relapse prevention, communication and the establishment of healthy boundaries. CORE Belief System The CORE Belief System is rooted in the concept of reconnecting to, or recovering, one’s Authentic Core, the Artistic Self. When addressing the idea of personal growth and self discovery, we focus on the capacity to heal a wounded soul or as it is called at the Sonoma Center for Change, a 'distorted CORE Belief System.' This means one honestly examines the agreements and contracts that do not support living through their Artistic Self. Healing the wounded soul is the path toward freedom. A person experiences freedom by living life on life’s terms, reconnecting to the Artistic Self, and by embracing and living the principles of acceptance, forgiveness, compassion and honesty. Within the Core Belief System, the journey toward reconnecting to the Artistic Self takes one through three stages of personal development. These three stages are:
Treatment at SCC builds upon these stages, which are all experienced in practical detail through the guidance of our Residential Workbook. Holistic Healing
Transpersonal Psychology The practice of applying a spiritual component to programing occurs through the various healing methods of all of SCC’s programs. Inherent in every experience is the intention to quiet the reasoning mind and open a path toward a whole self or peak experience. Yoga, for instance, aims to integrate the mind, body and spirit. Each discipline used in the CORE Belief System contains a spiritual or transpersonal dimension, whether it is in group work, CORE Belief assignments, individual counseling, or creative expression. Transpersonal understandings arise from an individual’s ability to identify the spiritual in whatever they are experiencing. Spending reflective time with each experience reveals to the resident that all aspects of life are indeed connected and unified. Nutrition The Sonoma Center for Change offers a distinctive culinary experience that supports the mind, body and spirit in the recovery process. Our chef works with the freshest, healthiest, and highest quality ingredients, including organic & locally grown produce, pesticide and antibiotic free dairy products, poultry and fish. Each resident will meet with a trained Dietician to learn how the healing properties of fresh foods allow the body to reach a balance that helps to reduce cravings, create strength, calm the emotions and bring clarity of mind.
